A Chinese Calligrapher

JingJing Ye I have known Dr. Jingjing Ye as a friend for many years. He is a Chinese calligrapher. He has been helping out some of our users who are interested in Chinese Calligraphy. I thought it is a good idea to introduce him here so you may contact him if you have special needs in Chinese calligraphy.

Dr. Ye started getting interested and practicing Chinese calligraphy when he was 12 in Nanjing, China. He was introduced to the wonderful world of ancient Chinese calligraphy by a teacher who taught his calligraphy class. Although it was in the midst of the Cultural Revolution and schools were in chaos, he, by no interruption, spent two hours everyday for the next 4 years practicing calligraphy. Since then he vigorously copied the works of many famous ancient calligraphers. To learn Chinese calligraphy, he also visited many places where the great calligraphers inscribed their writings on steles.

After he attended college and came to the U.S. to pursue further education, and to do research thereafter, he still exercised this childhood hobby as much as he could. The following is what Dr. Ye has to say.

I personally think I have made steady improvement in my skill, simply due to the fact that I learned more of the rich culture of ancient and modern China, I enriched my knowledge base through education, and my arm and wrist became stronger through the years of tennis.

Calligraphy is not only a means of communication, but also, more importantly, a form of art, which provides visual enjoyment, cultural enrichment, and is a form of fulfillment. I hope you like my calligraphy.
