The New Year is a time for setting resolutions and one of the most popular resolutions is to lose weight. Chinese girls are turning to some unconventional tactics to keep slim and trim.
They're eating roundworm eggs, staring at pictures of thin people, and using a "special soap," according to the Daily Mail.
To look thin for job interviews, female students are eating roundworm eggs, which hatch in the stomach and lead to weight loss without diet or exercise. In China, an applicant's physical appearance plays a huge part in the hiring process. A picture affixed to a resume is often required for applicants of both sexes.
Before you consider foregoing the treadmill in favor of eating roundworm eggs, the practice can cause severe health problems. Other students are turning to less stomach churning methods. Some are staring at pictures to keep from eating. Others are taking multiple showers a day with a "special soap" said to help shed weight. Despite the health risks, these students see it as a way to improve job prospects in China, where there are more people than jobs.
While staring at pictures of skinny people or using special beauty products to lose weight isn't new, eating worms takes diet fads to a whole new level. I'll stick with the treadmill, thanks. Tell me: what are you doing to lose weight and get healthy in 2011?
