One of Taiwan's top television shows, The Legend of Zhen Huan, an imperial court drama, is proving to be a hit in Taiwan but has dismayed Chinese authorities, according to the Associated Press.
Set in the Qing Dynasty, the show revolves around fictional concumbines vying for the attention of the emperor. Many viewers who watch the scheming that goes on say it is applicable in finding ways to get ahead and beat out office politics. The show is proving popular on both sides of the Taiwan strait though Chinese officials are apparently not happy with this show and copy cat versions for fear the shows may provide distorted views of how to deal with office politics.
It's rumored that China's State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television will limit historial dramas to 10-percent of television offered. From time to time, the agency sets limits on programs. Last year it placed limits on the number of reality television shows, time-traveling shows, and crime drama, spy thrillers, and romances. With so many cuts, that doesn't leave much else to watch.
