Some travelers headed to Beijing in 2013 won't need a pricey visa to see the capital's historic attractions like the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, and Great Wall, according to CNN.

Transit travelers from 45 countries including the United States will not need to get a visa if their visit is 72 hours or less. Transit passengers must show proof of a confirmed air ticket or other travel plans which show a third destination in order to qualify. Visitors will not be able to travel outside the capital. Authorities hope the new policy will increase tourism to the capital.

While it is nice of Beijing to allow travelers without a visa, most tourist would like to stay for at least a week to explore the food, the Great Wall, and the culture. Nonetheless, this is a huge improvement.
