Each hand and combination in mahjong have point values that vary throughout the world. In addition, the amount of points can depend on the directional wind (or prevailing wind). Before game play, players mutually agree on a point system. Points are tabulated at the end of each round and accumulate with each round played. There are 16 rounds in a full mahjong game.
