Guizhou 贵州: Located in southwest China to the north of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Size: 68,000 square miles (176,000 sq. km.)

Population: 37 million in 2006.

Major Cities: Guiyang (capital), Zunyi, Anshun, Bijie, Liupanshui.

Economy: 2006 GDP: 228 billion yuan ($33 billion).

Major Crops/Industry Electricity production, tobacco, metal smelting, raw chemicals, beverage manufacturing.

Historical Note: Conquered in the Ming Dynasty, Guizhou has long been home to ethnic minority groups, that make up more than 37 percent of the total population. Half of the province is made up of autonomous regions for 15 plus ethnic minority groups in the province.
